Alexander Borodin’s opera Prince Igor, adapted in part from the epic The Song of Igor’s Campaign, made a significant impact on Russian history but left behind no definitive visual record. Prince Igor: Imaginary Portraits was published for the opera’s revival at the Met and includes many of the most prominent artists of two generations. Each artist has created a portrait of the 12th-century Russian warlord Prince Igor. Artworks by: David Adjaye, Kristin Baker, John Baldessari, Thome Browne, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Francesco Clemente, Peter Doig, Rachel Feinstein, Ryan Johnson, Alex Katz, Ragnar Kjartansson, Thomas Lawson, Raymond Pettibon, Elizabeth Peyton, Peter Saul, Peter Schjeldahl, Peter Schlesinger, Dana Schutz, Dasha Shishkin, Sophie von Hellerman, Charline von Heyl, Michael Williams.
