As everyone must know by now, action painting depends, to a hitherto unheard of degree, for its full and final effect on the physical properties of the medium itself. Naturally some artists of this persuasion stress it more than others, among the extremists are Manoucher Yektai, showing new work at the Poindexter gallery, 21 West Fifty-sixth Street.
Paint rolls with such blatant, glistening richness on his canvases that he must be given credit for not letting it clog, and slow down the pace of his applications to a stand-still. Color is dour and cooler than in his previous work and another novelty introduced is the human figure. Young women, of a chic desperation, float on the waves of medium as if they had just emerged from the depths of some rich dessert topped with whipped cream. Mr. Yektai gives a new meaning to tactile values.
