Peter Bradley (Emmerich, 41 East 57th Street): Here is a pleasant surprise, a debut at the tag‐end of the season in a show that combines a fully developed and refined technique with fresh sensitivity. The technique capitalizes on crackings, splittings and specklings of thick pigment layers that can be only partly controlled—very much the kind of, thing seen in recent work by Larry Poons, and a rather artsy‐craftsy means to which it is easy to find, objections. But the subsequent adjustments of color and modifications of texture are carried, through with real, artistry. The abstract patterns in delicate colors are invigorated by inherent resemblances to natural aspects of the world—mists, vibrant light, and waters and terrain seen from great heights. Mr. Bradley has somehow come through to an effective personal expression by means that would seem adaptable only to decorative repetition.
