Yvonne Jacquette, “From the Air”

I can’t help but imagine Yvonne Jacquette in the window seat, setting up her watercolors on the airplane tray table between beverage services when I see the incredibly cool works on paper from the 1970s—I especially like the ones that really shows the ridged depth of the plastic frames encircling a distant expanse of landscape below—though I don’t know that the artist painted these onboard [Ed. note: she did!] ), and, of course, then there are the big, dizzying, twinkling pointillist canvases of airborne vantages that make me see her not as a passenger at all, but as stunt pilot and captain in stupefying command of her craft.
