Keith Mayerson is an American contemporary artist known for depicting historical moments, figures, and snapshots from the throes of history. “My American Dream: This Land is Your Land” is his latest exhibition which just opened at New York’s Karma Gallery.
The exhibition continues his My American Dream series that the artist has worked on since the terrible events of September 11, 2001. In a statement, Mayerson saw it as a “call to action for me to focus on the forces that make American Dreams become realities.” Martin Luther King Jr., Cesar Chavez, Gloria Steinem and Harvey Milk are amongst the many iconic activists enshrined by the artist.
In essence, Mayerson’s paintings serve as an ode to the heroes he states give him “guidance, faith, and solace” — reminding us that “our country’s democracy is worth saving.”
“My American Dream: This Land is Your Land” is on view until January 8 at Karma Gallery’s 188 & 172 East 2nd Street locations.
Elsewhere, WOAW Gallery enlisted Dr. Woo for its first NFT auction.
