In a lucid state of rest, there are tangential glimpses of a state of – potentiality. Exhale. A mirage of freedom drapes the consciousness. This fantasy plays congruent to a sustained b flat; habits become jazz.

Magical realism is a western take on the sacred – myths overarching our joint reality. Black rest is an assault on the majority. When Black slumber is met with rounds – we can only reside in Limbo, one eye opening peaking and focused on our target, the lucid.

Nathaniel Oliver’s debut solo show, Limbo, is a formal inquisition. There is no daily life. There is only a remix, an overlap, a pack of cards in your back pocket to escape and sustain.

Nathaniel Oliver (b. Washington, DC, 1996)  is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in New York City. His practice in painting, sculpture, performance, video, and installations focuses on veracity not being absolute. Guided by perspective, he challenges the normality of the world in which we live. In this digital world, fact is manipulated and cropped to its beneficiary. Conversely, veracity both builds and dismantles spaces. His works reflect the literal and metaphorical experiences that he has come to comprehend and the attestation of him being there.
