In 2009, the painter Dike Blair traveled to Kyoto after receiving a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. While in the city, Blair made a series of still lifes in gouache that, in his typical manner, transform quotidian sights and materials into exercises in light and color. Karma’s presentation at Art Collaboration Kyoto places selections from this body of work in conversation with paintings and sculptures by Gertrude Abercrombie, Henni Alftan, Ann Craven, Marley Freeman, Reggie Burrows Hodges, Susumu Kamijo, Zenzaburo Kojima, Hughie Lee-Smith, Woody De Othello, Kathleen Ryan, Gedi Sibony, Jonas Wood, and Manoucher Yektai.
